Due to very high viscosity of borate compounds, it is advanta- geous to have the crucible rotated, in addition to rotating the seed in the opposite direction. While designing the crystal growth setup, the importance is given for maneuverable parameters such as the cooling rate and gradient above the melt surface, seed and crucible rotation speed, pulling rate, etc., which are very crucial to optimize single crystal growth. To grow single crystals of device grade, the flexibility that the technique adopted gives for the manipulation of growth re- lated parameters is crucial. Many of them, including the recently discovered UV trans- parent borates, have melting temperatures near 1000 ° C. optical single crystals are extensively used for signal processing and wavelength conversion applications.
